My First Penny Earned at Medium

The newfound life as a professional writer

The day I quit my job.

When I opened up Medium stats screen and saw that I had made my very first penny writing I shakily took up my old iPhone and took a picture.

I ran out of my office, iPhone in hand. The stairs down to my boss’s office went two steps at a time. I crashed in without knocking and threw my iPhone on his desk, the picture of my newfound richness shining against him.

“I’m done. I quit. I am a professional writer now. I will finally pursue my lifelong dream as a writer.” I said, winded and with a pitch way higher than envisioned when I ran down the stairs.

My boss looked up at me with an uncertain smile, waiting for me to burst out into laughter. When he understood I wasn’t kidding, the smile transformed into a worrying expression.

“But Tommy..”

“No!” I said, cutting him off. “I know what you will say. It might only be one penny, but everything starts with one penny. If I can earn one penny, I can earn one dollar. If I can make a dollar, I can make one hundred dollars, thousands.. nay millions of dollars. I have to invest all my time into this.”
