A life-altering word, for good and bad.
Do you remember Carl Allen (Jim Carey) from the movie Yes man? If not, it’s a hilarious movie from 2008 about Carl that’s a notorious No Man. Until his Naysaying almost lost him everything. By happenstance, he found the Yes’ Guru, Terrance Bundley (Terrance Stamp). Without spoiling too much, things brightened up for him when he started to say Yes to everything (and some hilarious scenes off course)
Being a real Yes person
Hey you. YES, you, reader of these words. Can you please do me a favor?
Your response to that sentence may indicate if you are a YES person or not. If your response is: Yes. Sure. What can I do for you? You are probably a YES person. If your response is: No. Why should I? I don’t even know you! Or: That depends on the favor, you are probably not.
That doesn’t mean you are a lesser person. Not at all. And you should probably be glad you’re not a YES person, more on that later. But there might be something for anyone to learn from saying YES more.
I am a YES person. For good and bad. My default answer is YES.
I often say YES without thinking about the consequences. And there might be some real grave ones. Potentially…
