A Poem

Hi is a breath, calorie-free and simple,

Hi is a word, short, infinitely strong.

Hi, can bring dark days meaningful kindle,

Say hi with a smile, don’t prolong,

Who knows how many days in life was gone.

I don’t write many poems, and everyone has taken months or years to get from head to paper. So was true about Hi, or Hei as its originally called in Norwegian.

Outside the bus station sat a beggar one year ago. I didn’t have any money, but I smiled and said hi to him.

The way his eyes lit up inspired me to write this poem, and I wrote the first version on my 12 minutes walk from the bus station to my workplace.

It took me another 12 months to get it “out there”
